On the following pages you will find a series of tartans of stunning design based on thoughtful analysis,  artistic talent for color and geometry, and a knowledge of Scots, English, and European history and place. All are the registered property and creations of Mr. David McGill, the renowned Edinburgh tartan designer, who has licensed Bonbright Woolens as the source for his tartans in the United States.

Mr. McGill's love for Scotland is eclipsed only by his love for Scots, wherever they are! This heartfelt affection is reflected in his designs and his generous heart. Here are a few observations about the tartan.

Mr. McGill views tartan as originally devised as a means of identity or association which originated in Scotland and which had little to do with names or clans but rather the districts from which they came. He believes tartan should be regarded as a universal and inclusive emblem available to all. In which regard he includes new Scots like Clebowski's, Singh's, D'Agostino's, and Goldberg's as Scots through and through, some even third and fourth generation. His designs then, encompass a range of Counties (Districts) which include all Scots, native born and resident. The same sense of place and identity is applied to Nations, States, and English shires and cities. As such he issues a Certificate of Right and Obligation in his capacity as Custodian of the designs and appoints the bearers (and wearers) of the tartans and checks, Armigers. All are also provided with a Dress Code, the design notes, and a copy of The Prayer for Tartan.
